Week 14, good to have the time to train again

Its amazing how quickly you lose your level of training. After a couple of weeks of time consuming holidays, overindulgence of food and drink, and the lackadaisical attitude that comes with all the above, I found myself struggling to get back to where I left off just a few short weeks ago.

This week I was able to get my running back a bit as well as make some gains on the bike. Swimming remains my weakest point, strangely I felt that is where I would make the most gains. I am still not where I want or need to be with it. While I feel I could do the distance and complete the race at this point it wouldn't be pretty. I will be hitting the gym pool heavily and trying to figure out what is holding me back.

Workouts this last week began on Monday, I did a sprint distance triathlon workout. This wasn't a race, I did it at my gym by myself, and mainly to begin to get my body used to the transitions from swim to bike and then to the run. I did it in a decent time for being relaxed, 15:50 for my 750yrd swim, 38:00 for the 12 mile bike, and 28:00 for my run. Transition times were about 5 minutes each, like I said, I was going about it very relaxed.

Tues: Off

Wed: Run planned on 6 miles, began my run and had something get me overheated and feeling faint at the 20 min mark. Quit and jumped on the bike for 30 min. (That night I woke up in a pool of sweat three times and felt either like I was on fire of freezing cold)

Thurs: Swim, 1000 yrds, most of this was a crawl but I switched back and forth between it and a back kick. Did not swim for speed, just for form and to help relax.

Fri: Bike, 60 minutes, 17.5 miles, moderate effort, heart range in the 60-80% range throughout.

Sat: Run, 5.9 miles-60 minutes, slow run. Felt good to run and not feel like I was about to die...

Sun: Swim, 750 yrds, sprints and back kicks. Mainly 25 yrd sprints with a 25 yrd back kick for recovery.
